Working on the project, we were hugely inspired by the landscape of Amaala as it is now: a place where the desert meets the sea, where the sun and the wind can be harsh, and at other times soothing.
A landscape in which, because of the near absence of plants and humans, the classical elements of earth, water, fire and air can be experienced very directly. In the design for the Welcome Centre, we wanted to capture, tame and play with these elements, as an ode to the essence of the area.
